MOTHER AND CHILD UNIT MANAGER
JOB TITLE: MOTHER AND CHILD UNIT MANAGER
WORKPLACE: Mogalakwena Private Hospital (Mokopane)
POSITION TYPE: Permanent
Purpose: To provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership for the NICU, Pediatric and Maternity units. Ensuring safe, high-quality, family centered care for mothers, newborns and children by overseeing staff management, regulatory compliance, patient safety, multidisciplinary coordination of care, effective resource and budget control, and efficient unit operations to deliver optimal maternal and child health outcomes.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Maintain high standards of maternal, neonatal and pediatric care, ensuring compliance with clinical protocols, reduction of adverse events, infection control management and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skills mix, manage performance appraisals and professional development to maintain a competent and motivated team.
- Ensure full compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, legal requirements and hospital policies, while proactively identifying and mitigating clinical and operational risks.
- Oversee admissions, discharges, bed management, theatre coordination (where applicable) and unit workflow to optimize patient flow and service delivery.
- Manage unit budgets, control expenditure, monitor stock and equipment usage, and ensure cost effective utilization of resources without compromising patient care.
- Promote family centered care, handle complaints effectively support patient satisfaction initiatives and maintain a compassionate and respectful environment.
Qualifications:
- Matric Certificate.
- Relevant SANC certification.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience working as Mother and Child Unit manager.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong clinical leadership and sound decision-making ability with advanced knowledge of neonatal, pediatric, and maternity nursing practices.
- Ability to manage complex unit operations, staffing, patient flow and service delivery efficiently.
- Effective communications skills with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families and senior management.
- Ability to lead, motivate, mentor and manage diverse teams while addressing performance and conflict constructively.
- High level of empathy, professionalism and commitment to family centered maternity and childcare.
- High level of accountability, organizational ability, and problem-solving skills.
